senseilanceiidaWe are deeply saddened by the passing of our judo Sensei Lance Iida. Sensei Lance passed away at Straub Hospital on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 2:19pm. He was born on July 6, 1970 and employed as a math teacher at Washington Middle School for the past 5 years. Lance is the math team coach and has won state competition titles for his school. He was a loving teacher, judo sensei, judo coach and a great friend to many. Lance is a sensei at Shobukan Judo Club and was involved in judo since the age of 12.

He spent most of his life dedicating his time at judo and helping our children. He has won many state judo championships during his twenty plus years as the McKinley judo coach and is well respected by other high school judo coaches. Originally an Engineer, he later changed careers by obtaining his teaching certificate in Mathematics in order to continue his enjoyment of coaching judo and math with the students. Lance enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting at the range and going to Las Vegas to gamble.

Sensei Lance you will be truly missed by many and forever be in our hearts. We have many fond memories of you and know that you will look upon us with a smiling face and hearty laugh.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Nuuanu Mortuary.
