The 50th State Judo Association is again offering its Scholarship and Competition Award programs to its members for the 2012 calendar year.

The Scholarship Program, which was developed to provide financial assistance to members of the 50th SJA who wish to pursue post-high school educational opportunities, will award three $500 scholarships in the areas of scholar-athlete, competitor/kata and referee. The recipients must be enrolled in a nationally-accredited institution by the end of 2012.

The Competition Award Program offers four $400 awards (ages 8 to 11, 12 to 15, 16 to 19 and kata) for those members who have actively participated in competitions available to the judo community. Judoka are encouraged to enter tournaments on the local, regional, national and international levels. The monies from the award are to help offset travel expenses to and from out-of-state competitions.

To be eligible for either program, judoka must be a 50th SJA member in good standing for at least two years, proof of participation in practices and tournaments must be provided along with a letter of recommendation from a instructor or teacher. Also, copies of recent report cards and a list of recent judo accomplishments for the calendar year should be submitted with the completed application form.
